Helgott Research Institute

The Helfgott Research Institute is a professionally independent, non-profit research institute whose mission is to conduct rigorous, high quality, research in the public domain on the art and science of healing, specifically working to understand natural forms of medicine. Together, scientists from the fields of Naturopathic medicine, Chinese medicine, Acupuncture, Immunology, and Nutrition apply their expertise to the study of natural medicine.

Established in June of 2003 at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), the Helfgott Research Institute (Helfgott) has a state of the art basic science laboratory, as well as the resources to foster clinical research focused on Chinese medicine, Naturopathic medicine, and energy medicine. The Helfgott has recruited several leading investigators to head research projects, and provide mentorship for NCNM faculty, students and residents who wish to conduct clinical studies. The Helfgott is well positioned to study natural therapies as our faculty specialize in these modalities.

Current faculty research projects at Helfgott include grants directly funded by the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In addition, Helfgott participates in several collaborative grants with Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) as well as with other Western bio-medical and naturopathic schools.

Helfgott sponsors an online forum, the Helfgottblog, which is aimed at increasing awareness about integrative medicine on a world-wide scale. The intention of our mission is to promote sharing of fact, thought and opinions related to the revolution of healthcare. We believe that an unbiased resource should exist for all branches of healthcare, so that as healers of humanity, we can combine our expertise across the board to undertake the troubling health issues of today. Moreover, the Helfgottblog is designed as a forum providing outlets for consumers to express concerns about the current state of our healthcare. This dialogue enables medical practitioners and companies, as well as policy makers, to understand the perspective of consumers and how to incorporate changes within business models and practices.
